I See DC photo contest is back! Tag your photo with #iseeDC2016 to participate in AIA|DC’s Instagram contest celebrating architecture in Washington. Contest is open October 1, 2016 - November 20, 2016.

Theme:  Architecture everyday. Document how architecture inspires you and your interactions with the world around you. The purpose of the contest is to raise public awareness of the built environment in Washington, DC. Explore how design inspires, creates order, transforms, delights, or creates a sense of place. 

How to enter:

Snap a photo of DC
Post to Instagram with #iseeDC2016
Include a title, location, and date.
Limit of 5 images per entrant

Images posted before October 1st or after November 20th will not be considered.

Tour: Logan Circle and the 14th Street Corridor

Date: Saturday, November 5, 2016

Tour several dozen new buildings of 14th Street NW and explore the architectural concept of “historic district moderne.”

Architectural Photography & History Walking Tour

Tour some of the finest residential rows in DC with a local architectural historian and professor.

In Pursuit of Heritage: Tracing Early Elements of Islamic Architecture

An illustrated lecture at the Library of Congress, visiting architectural historian and conservationist Dr. Rana Al Kadi takes us on a personal journey as she explores the history of Islamic architecture following in the footsteps of the renowned writer and scholar, Ibn Khaldun.

CANSTRUCTION 2016 Build-Out

Location: National Building Museum

Join the Washington Architectural Foundation and the National Building Museum to view Canstruction! Teams will build Movie Night-themed structures entirely out of cans on November 20. Their work will be on display November 21 through November 27 at the National Building Museum. See NBM website for hours.

CANstruction 2016

Artful Afternoons - Architecture

Date: Sunday, November 20, 2016

Time: 1:00 pm 

Location:  Smithsonian Early Enrichment Center, National Museum of American History
12th St. and Constitution Ave, NW Washington, DC 20001

Families with children in grades K-3 are welcome to drop by the art studio Sunday afternoons where families can choose from a selection of maker stations. Each station presents a challenge or a question based on the afternoon’s theme. How you solve that challenge is entirely up to you- sky’s the limit!

$20 | 1 Child + 2 parents
$36 | 2 children  + 2 parents
$50 | 3 or more children + 2 parents
Workshops run from 1-3pm with the final admittance at 2:15
Educator Introductions will begin at 1:05 and 2pm

Our afternoon will focus on creating specific architectural elements that we see at home in our community and culminate in building a structure from our own imagination.
