Yesterday teams built Movie Night-themed structures entirely out of cans (photos of build-out are below in the gallery). Their work is on display through November 27 at the National Building Museum. See NBM website for hours. Our very own President Darrel Rippeteau is the Architect Sponsor for the AGC of DC Young Constructors Forum (YCF) entry in the contest (pictured above with the YCF team.)
Canstruction is a nationwide program that aims to raise awareness about hunger. In DC, Canstruction is organized by the Washington Architectural Foundation as a creative design-build competition that benefits the Capital Area Food Bank through donations of canned goods. Teams from architecture and design firms from Washington, DC use their skills to build sculptures out of cans of food that gets donated to the Capital Area Food Bank for distribution to those in need after the event.
On Black Friday instead of shopping bring a canned-good donation to the Building Museum and vote for your favorite "can-sculpture". You can also donate directly to the Capital Area Food Bank here.
